The Ultimate Summer Music Festival Checklist! ☀️🎶

By Static Mouth Society

Summer is here and so are the festivals! Many of us know what it's like to get to a concert or festival just to find out that we are missing our wallet, phone charger, or forgot our sunscreen. We've done the hard work for you- so you can show up stress free. Make the most of your festival experience without missing a beat! From Summerfest to Lollapalooza, to Warped Tour and more, this summer music festival checklist has you covered.

Concert crowd cheers facing a large stage with performers. Colorful visuals on screens, sunny outdoor setting, energetic atmosphere.

PLANNING AHEAD ✅

Before the music even starts, set yourself up for success. Don't skip on these six important steps, they are sure to save you some time and give you some peace of mind come festival day!

  • Scope out what acts you want to see, and when they perform

  • Mark your festival dates on a calendar

  • Let someone know where you’ll be and when to check in

  • Download a rideshare app or set a quick-dial for your designated driver

  • Review the festival’s entry rules and prohibited items list to avoid delays at the gate

  • Check the weather and local traffic so you’re not late to your favorite act

THE ESSENTIALS ‼️

You might be rolling your eyes, saying to yourself, "Of course I know I need to pack these things"—but you'd be surprised. Festivals are exciting, and with this excitement come distractions, multitasking, and eagerness to get out the door. Between planning what you'll wear and who you want to see, it's easy to forget these mundane yet essential items:

  • Festival ticket or wristband

  • Phone (fully charged)

  • Portable charger (bring a spare if you’re filming or taking photos)

  • Wallet

    • ID

    • Debit/Credit Cards

    • Cash (some vendors may be cash-only)

  • Earplugs (for hearing safety)

  • Keys

  • Sunscreen (because nothing kills a vibe like a sunburn)

  • Quick access to your rideshare app or designated driver contact

FOR YOUR SAFETY 🎧

Various hygiene products on a teal background include tissue boxes, sanitizers, a mask, and gloves, conveying cleanliness and safety.

Even the best-planned festivals come with surprises. Stay ahead of the weather, and any potential injuries with these small but powerful items:

  • Clear, reusable water bottle (check venue rules)

  • Compact first aid kit (bandages, pain relief, allergy meds)

  • Hand sanitizer or disinfecting wipes

  • Tissues or a small roll of toilet paper (because port-a-potties rarely deliver)

  • Lightweight poncho or rain jacket

  • Bug spray or anti-itch stick

FOR YOUR COMFORT 😌

Safety is one thing, comfort is another. Don't skip out on these items, they could help you end your night on a high-note rather than in pain, dirty, or overheated. Here are some small items that get overlooked, but make a huge impact:

  • Small, inexpensive makeup bag (leave the luxury items at home)

  • Deodorant (stick, wipes, or spray — your choice)

  • Hair ties or clips

  • Personal fan or cooling towel

  • Blanket or towel (for lounging on the lawn, if allowed)

  • Reusable tote bag (plus one for merch runs)

  • Shoe inserts or blister pads (trust us on this one)

BUT WHAT WOULD I WEAR: 👩🏻‍🎤

Neutral-colored sweaters and shirts hang neatly on hangers. Folded clothes and black sneakers are on a shelf. Sunlight casts soft shadows.

We challenge you to make an outfit that is not only stylish, but comfortable. Let's be honest, the last thing we want is to come home after an amazing experience in burned, overheated, or covered in blisters from walking all day. If you have to make a tough decision on whether to keep it stylish or comfortable, we hope you choose the latter- it's a simple way to show some self-love.

These are our favorites:

  • Breathable, lightweight clothes you can move in

  • Comfortable shoes (style counts, but comfort wins)

  • Sunglasses

  • Hat or bucket hat for sun protection

  • Jacket, flannel, or hoodie for cooler nights

  • Fun extras: face glitter, gems, or temporary tattoos

  • Statement jewelry: chains, rings, studs — bring the festival flair

NOTEWORTHY EXTRAS: 🎶

If you’ve got space, these bonus items can elevate the experience:

  • Snacks (save your cash for the merch booth, only if it's allowed by the venue)

  • Ziplock bags (keeps valuables dry if it rains)

  • Compact umbrella (check if permitted)

  • Sharpies or a mini notebook (for memories or artist encounters)

  • GoPro

  • Polaroid or film camera for that nostalgic, analog feel (some venues may not allow professional cameras)

  • Extra pair of socks (seriously, because mud, sweat, and spills happen)

Whether you're going for a couple of hours, a full day, or an entire weekend, this quick list is here to keep you covered. Let it be your go-to guide so you can stress less, vibe more, and enjoy every second of your festival adventure.

We'll see you in the crowds.
